Surgitrac Instruments was proud to attend the 48th Annual UKISCRS Congress on the 28th and 29th of November 2024, where we had the pleasure of seeing many familiar faces and meeting the wonderful ophthalmologists in attendance. This year’s event was particularly special, as it marked the 75th anniversary of the intraocular lens (IOL), a milestone in ophthalmic history.
The congress kicked off with a presidential welcome by Paul Ursell, followed by a series of educational lectures on topics that have shaped the field of cataract surgery. These included ‘The Good the Pandemic Has Wrought’ by Arthur Cummings, ‘Making the Best of the NHS’ by Sarah Maling, and ‘Managing Refractive Surprise’ by James Ball. Day two featured exciting sessions that looked towards the future of cataract surgery, including ‘What Will Cataract Surgery Look Like at the 100th Anniversary?’ moderated by Filomena Ribeiro, Paul Rosen, and Milind Pande. We were also proud to support the session, ‘How Cataract Surgery Has Changed,’ which reflected on the tremendous progress in the field.
The event also provided valuable insights from experts such as Marc de Smet, who discussed ‘Will Robotics Take Over My Job?’, and Damien Gatinel, who explored how ‘Artificial Intelligence will influence IOL selection’. Other noteworthy discussions included global demand for cataract surgery by Larry Benjamin and Gerd Auffarth’s presentation on ‘How Ridley’s Innovation Changed the World.’
The congress provided the perfect opportunity for us to showcase our range of ophthalmic instruments, including our single-use and reusable instruments, as well as our cataract procedure packs and sets.
